DETROIT (WWJ) - Bond was denied for an accused Detroit cop killer, who made his first court appearance Thursday,
JuJuan Parks, 28, was arraigned via video in 36th District Court, charged with 16 felony counts in the slaying of Detroit Police Officer Rasheen McClain and the wounding of his partner, Officer Philippe Batoum-Bisse two weeks ago.
Parks has reportedly confessed to shooting to two officers at a home near Wyoming and 8 Mile Rd.
The defendant was mostly silent during his brief court appearance, during which the charges issued earlier this week by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy were read: First Degree Premeditated Murder, First Degree Murder of a Police Officer (alternate counts); three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer Causing Death, Discharge of a Weapon in a Building Causing Death, Discharge of a Weapon in a Building Causing Serious Impairment, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and eight counts of Felony Firearm - Second Offense.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig alleges that Parks, who was wounded in the shootout, "baited" the officers, and wanted "suicide by cop." He was on parole for another case at the time of his latest alleged crime.
While police have named Parks as a suspect in six other shootings since mid-November, Worthy's office said those investigations are still ongoing.
Parks was remanded into custody in the Wayne County Jail where he will awaits a Probable Cause Conference scheduled for Dec. 19, following by a Preliminary Examination is scheduled for Dec. 23. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court.
The funeral for Officer McClain is schedule for Friday morning at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit.
