(WWJ) A 11-year-old boy is dead after a sand dune collapsed in Michigan's Upper Peninsula
According to the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post, troopers responded to a roadside beach in Alger County’s Au Train Township, at around 12:40 p.m. Friday,
Investigators found that the boy had been digging in a sand dune near Lake Superior, when the dune collapsed on top of him.
The boy was unresponsive when troopers arrived, police said, and they were unable to revive him.
The boy was taken by EMS Munising Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
MSP said the boy's family had been visiting Michigan from out-of-state. His name was not released.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Autrain Township Fire Department, Alger County Sheriff’s Office and Alger County EMS all assisted at the scene,
