WARREN, Mich. (WWJ) -- A Warren De La Salle Collegiate student was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly bringing a knife to school.

Warren Police Chief Bill Dwyer says a 17-year-old student allegedly brought the knife, intending to get even with two students who were bullying him, though he is not accused of using the knife.

Police are still investigating the incident and going over possible charges.

School officials have confirmed to WWJ that classes were canceled for Friday at De La Salle, Detroit Catholic Central and De La Salle's sister school, Regina High School, after threats were made on social media.

All of this comes as the school announced Thursday the football team will forfeit its first-round playoff game against Birmingham Groves, effectively ending the season, after reports of hazing allegations surfaced.

Police tell WWJ they do not believe the arrest is connected to the hazing.

Dwyer says the school had not brought the hazing incident to police, as of 6 p.m. Thursday. Dwyer said he is disappointed because it "sounds like it could be criminal."
