DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit police are asking for the public's help in locating a woman who suffers from mental illness that has been missing since before the New Year.

Authorities say 57-year-old Lillian Nogzi of Detroit was last seen on Dec. 29 in the 17300 block of Indiana Street, north of McNichols Road and east of Wyoming Avenue.

The woman's caregiver says this is not the first time Nogzi has left home unannounced, but she typically returns within two or three days. Her caretaker says she is often found at Oscar's Coney Island near McNichols and Wyoming, or the bridge near Woodward and 8 Mile Road, or at a shelter on Cass Avenue, but she has not been seen in more than a week. Her caretaker is concerned for her safety.

Nogzi is described as about 5-foot-6, 190 lbs. with a short haircut. She was last seen wearing a tan coat with blue jeans, according to police.

Anyone who has seen Lillian Nogzi or knows of her whereabouts is asked to call the Detroit Police Department's Twelfth Precinct at 313-596-1240 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
