DETROIT (WWJ) -- There will reportedly be no celebratory ball drop in downtown Detroit to ring in the new decade.

The event, known as "The Drop," was scheduled to be hosted by Ferndale-based company The Social Connection, but for the second year in a row, the event has been canceled, according to a report from The Detroit Free Press.

The Social Connection cited sponsorship funding, scheduling and other logistical issues as reasons for canceling the event.

"The Drop" was first organized in 2010, but was not held last year, as they cited timing and space problems.

At the time, officials with the company promised the event would be back to ring in 2020, saying "The Drop will be back bigger than ever on December 31, 2019."
