ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) - Students and professors at Oakland University are raising money today to help those in the Bahamas who were affected by Hurricane Dorian.

Tables are set up in the student center to collect donations until eight p.m. Thursday. Those who donate will receive an “I DONATED” sticker.

Donations will also be accepted at Hillcrest and Vandenberg residence halls outside the dining areas at tables staffed by Housing staff during this time.

Online contributions can also be made now through “Grow Oakland,” a crowdfunding platform. To donate online, click here.

In addition, President Ora Pescovitz has given $5,000 to the effort and has pledged another $5,000 in matching funds from the community.

The Athletic department will also donate the ticket proceeds from this Saturday’s women’s volleyball and men’s soccer matches to the “Dollars for Dorian Relief” effort.

"We are taking steps to support those in the Bahamas who are dealing with the physical, emotional and psychological trauma caused by one of the most devastating hurricanes in recent history," Pescovitz said in a statement. "Working together, we can and will make a positive impact on our communities and the world."
