(WWJ) After a couple of delays, a much-anticipated drive-in theater in northern Oakland County is set to open on May 29, and run through the fall.

The Emagine Entertainment theater chain is sponsoring the effort, at Canterbury Village in Lake Orion, where movies will be shown on a 14-foot by 32-foot LED raised screen to viewers in the safety of their vehicles.

"This was going to be and will still be a great event to make families feel normal again… even for just a few hours!!" reads a message on the event's Facebook page. "We look forward to seeing everyone later this month. Stay safe."

Along with giving metro Detroit families something to look forward too, health and safety are top of mind, too.

To help limit the spread of the coronavirus, capacity will be limited to 160 cars per show, with a 14-foot by 20-foot space per vehicle. All ticketing will be done in advance and tickets will be scanned through closed car windows.

Restrooms will be available onsite and will follow strict cleanliness and capacity guidelines maintained by Canterbury Village attendants, according to a news release, and will require guests to wear both a mask and gloves, according to the release.

Pets are not allowed.

“We are delighted to enter into this sponsorship with the Aldridge Family and support their entrepreneurial spirit in opening the drive-in” said Paul Glantz, co-founder and chairman of Emagine Entertainment, in a statement. “We are happy to support this effort so people in our community will be able to partake of out-of-home entertainment during this sad period in our history.”

“We are very excited about the sponsorship with Emagine Entertainment," added Keith Aldridge, CEO of Canterbury Village. "The Emagine brand carries strong recognition in the marketplace and it is synonymous with the high value and exceptional experience we strive to provide guests who visit our properties."

The Canterbury Village Drive-in plans to show "The Secret Life of Pets," "Sonic the Hedgehog," "Jumanji: The Next Level," "Dolittle" and "Spider-Man: Far from Home" over the summer.

It's important to note that the opening may depend on future governor's orders amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's stay-home order is set to expire on May 28.
