EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WWJ) -- The search is on for a pair of crooks after a New Year's Eve heist in Eastpointe.
Police tell WWJ the Family Dollar store along 9 Mile Road west of Kelly Road was robbed by two men shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Authorities say a man armed with a semi-auto handgun approached the clerk and pulled out a gun before taking an undisclosed amount of money from the register. A second suspect stood watch outside the store during the robbery. Police say they arrived at the scene within one minute of receiving the call, but the men had already fled on foot westbound through an alley. A K-9 track of the suspects was unsuccessful and police are still investigating the robbery.
Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down the suspects. The armed man is described as approximately 24-26 years old, 6-foot, with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a navy blue ski mask, hat and jacket.
The suspect who served as the lookout is described as 20-22 years old, 5-foot-8, with a think build. He was wearing a black jacket and shoes and gray sweatpants.
