(WWJ) Detroit once again tops the list of most violent cities in America, according to new statistics released by the FBI.
Detroit was ranked the most violent big city in the U.S. in 2018 per capita, and now again for 2019.
While violent crime has decreased some in Detroit, the city's rate of 1,965 violent crimes per 100,000 people placed it highest among cities with more than 100,000 residents, according to the FBI, followed by St. Louis, Missouri; Memphis, Tennessee; and Baltimore, Maryland. To rank the cities, the FBI looked at crimes such as murder, rape, assault and robbery.
There was, however, some welcome news in Monday's FBI report:
"Interestingly, Flint had a significant decrease of violent crimes for a city of its size," WWJ's Charlie Langton reported. "In 2018, Flint was number five in the county, but then dropped to 15th with a 26% decrease in crime in 2019."

Looking at the national picture, the FBI says in 2019, violent crime was down 0.5% from the 2018 number. Property crimes also dropped 4.1%, marking the seventeenth consecutive year the collective estimates for these offenses declined.
The FBI's 2019 statistics show the estimated rate of violent crime was 366.7 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants, and the estimated rate of property crime was 2,109.9 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants. The violent crime rate fell 1%when compared with the 2018 rate; the property crime rate declined 4.5%.
