(WWJ) A man accused of setting fire to a Ferndale townhome complex has been charged with third-degree arson.
Ferndale police say David Hayes, 34, is accused of entering the Parkdale Townes on May 11 and setting three "small fires" to the vacant complex on Fielding Street near 8 Mile Road and Livernois, according to a press release. The complex is under construction.
Construction workers 'discovered the damage' the following morning, according to the release. All of the fires were self-contained. Ferndale police believe the flames "self-extinguished."
Hayes was arrested two days later. He was arraigned on a third-degree arson charge; and was given a $100,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
