(WWJ) Blue and red lights flashing, and tears in many eyes. A long line of police cars and fire trucks paid tribute to a small Detroit girl who died from coronavirus earlier this week.
The Detroit Police and Fire Departments held what they called a "Ride For Skylar Herbert" Friday, on Outer Drive just west of the Southfield Freeway in Detroit.
Skylar, at 5 years old, was the youngest person taken by COVID-19 so far in Michigan. The purpose of the event was to show support for her mother and father who are first responders.
All clad in masks, medical professionals and other Detroit Medical Center staffers waved and cheered as the impressive convoy rolled by.
"This is the coolest thing ever!" one woman standing by exclaimed.
"That was great," a man said. "Absolutely beautiful," a woman replied.
Responding to video of the parade shared to Facebook, Teresa Moss wrote: "I LOVE ALL OF YOU DETROIT DPD , FIREFIGHTERS, FIRST RESPONDERS, NURSES, DRS. ASSISTANTS, HOUSEKEEPERS, CHAPLAINS, LAB, VOLUNTEERS ,AND ALL OF YOU .❤❤❤"
