(WWJ) Is the world ready for a 1400 horsepower electric race car?

Ford Motor Co. wants to know, so it created a special prototype called the Mustang Mach E 1400.

They put a high powered battery and seven electric motors into the body of their upcoming electric vehicle, to enable it to have racecar performance.

Ford has released a video showing what the Ford Mustang Mach E 1400 prototype can do, and ill have demonstrations of the vehicle at upcoming NASCAR events.

But isn't 1400 horsepower a bit much?

"Yeah, and that's some of the things you're able to do with electric cars, is you can do some obscene horsepower numbers, and they're reliable on that level,"  Ford Motorsports Supervisor Brian Novak told WWJ's Jeff Glibert. "And you can kinda learn so much from it, that actually comes back to getting into production cars."

"Because, yeah, you may think that it's an obscene number, you know, that you'll never see," he added. "But to some extent we're able to develop things, and how you transfer that energy that actually can come back and help support how we build the base Mach E."

Novak noted that Ford did not follow any rules when creating the car, so it's not exactly legal to race in any series.

As far as what it's like to drive... "I have, unfortunately, not been able to drive it," Novak lamented.

However, he said, "We've put some of our key performance drivers through the vehicle, and they all giggle like small children when they get out of it."
