(WWJ) -- General Motors is recalling about 650,000 pickup trucks and SUVs for a defective sensor that could cause issues with the brake system.
Vehicles included in the recall include 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, as well as GMC Yukon SUVs. Pickup trucks subject to recall include the 2014-2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive, according to the company.
While no injuries have been reported, there have been issues with wheel-speed sensors. When a wheel-speed sensor fails, a software error in the vehicle's electronic brake module may cause the driveline protection system to activate, which can lead to unintended braking on the opposite wheel, potentially causing the vehicle to pull to one side. Officials say that increases the risk of a crash.
GM says that risk can be eliminated by driving in two-wheel drive until the recall repair is made. GM will reprogram the vehicles' software free of charge.
There have been more more than 100 reports of this issue, according to Reuters.
