GM Recalls Small Chevy SUVs; Suspension Welds Can Break

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - General Motors is recalling more than 107,000 small SUVs in the U.S. and Canada because a suspension weld can break and cause steering problems.

The recall covers certain 2015 through 2018 Chevrolet Trax vehicles.

Documents posted Friday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration a joint in one or both of the front lower-control arms may have been improperly welded. An improperly welded joint may break, resulting in the partial separation of the lower-control arm from the vehicle.

This is an expansion of a recall from April that covered the 2017 through 2019 model years.

GM will notify owner and dealers will inspect the left and right front lower-control arms, replacing them if needed.

No date has been set for the recall to begin.

Owners with questions can contact Chevy customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or the the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

GM's number for this recall is A192261870.
