NEW BALTIMORE (WWJ) - A barricaded gunman situation at a Macomb County apartment complex has ended peacefully with the suspect under arrest.

The situation unfolded around 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Waters Edge Estates apartment complex near 23 Mile Road and Jefferson Avenue in New Baltimore.

Police responded to the complex after getting a call that a man in his 40s with an absconding warrant for violating parole on multiple felonies was living in one of the buildings.

"When we arrived, he made comments that he had weapons and he let the occupant of the apartment out, who was a friend of his," Sgt. Ken Stevens told WWJ's Charlie Langton.

The man then barricaded himself inside a unit and refused to come out. Police officers and SWAT members surrounded the building with weapons drawn and attempted all night to get the man to surrender, but he refused.

Finally around 6:05 a.m. Thursday, the man exited the building and was immediately taken into police custody. As it turns out, there were no weapons in the apartment but police did discover drugs.

"When he said he was going to come out, he said, 'Just don't beat me up when I come out the door.' And, naturally, when he comes out we have four SWAT guys that grab him and he was upset about it. But he'll live, he'll live to have another day," said Stevens.

No injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
