NOVI (WWJ) - No one was home, and no one was hurt in a two-alarm fire that destroyed a house in Novi.
Authorities said the first 911 call came in just before 2 p.m. Monday about the fire, sending thick black smoke into the air on Westminster Circle, in the area of 10 Mile and Haggerty roads.
First responders quickly determined that there was no one inside the house, which was fully engulfed.
Novi firefighters, assisted by Walled Lake firefighters had the fire under control within the hour.
Novi Fire Chief Jeffery Johnson said an investigation is now underway.
"We're going to try to find out what the cause is; right now we don't know," he told WWJ Newsradio 950's Jon Hewett. "As you can see, a good part of the building is destroyed, but the fire is out right now. We're just gonna hit some hot spots."
Johnson said the American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the residents.
"Because the family is going to be displaced for awhile, and they're going to need a place to stay."
