(WWJ) Macomb County authorities are asking for tips after a traffic radar trailer was vandalized.
It happened sometime Wednesday night, or in the early morning hours Thursday, as the trailer was parked in Harrison Township on Memory Ln., near Ashland.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office, sharing photos of the equipment, said it is no longer functional.
Officials say it would cost around $9,000 to replace
Asking for help from the public to identify the culprit, officials called it a "sad" situation.
"Here in the Macomb County Sheriff's Office Traffic Bureau, we get quite a few traffic complaints. We put the locations of the complaints on a list and will deploy the trailer which records the amount of vehicles traveling that road and their speeds. This is helpful when deciding which areas are a priority to deploy deputies," the sheriff's office said.
"With the senseless loss of this tool, traffic enforcement will become difficult in residential areas, where our children often play."
It happened sometime Wednesday night, or in the early morning hours Thursday.
Anyone with information on who vandalized the radar trailer is asked to call Det. Cliff Morgan at 586-783-8192.
