'Known Creep' Arrested In Case Of Hidden Cameras At Chili Peppers Tanning Salon

SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) - A 38-year-old Macomb Township man has been arrested in connection with tiny cameras hidden at a popular tanning salon.

Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide said his officers took the suspect into custody on Friday, one week after three cameras were found in tanning rooms at Chili Peppers Tanning Salon at Van Dyke and 25 Mile Road.

"Our detectives have been working around the clock on this investigation," Shelide told WWJ's Charlie Langton. "There was major public concern...and over a hundred people reached out to us who were concerned about this. They were over in that tanning booth and felt like they...could have been compromised, you know, without their clothing on."

Shelide said his department partnered with the Macomb County Sheriff's Office and Michigan State Police forensic experts in the investigation.

"So I basically unleashed the dogs," Shelide said. "I told our guys I want this guy caught. I don't care what it costs or what it takes."

The man, whose name has not yet been released, is expected to be arraigned on criminal charges on Monday.

So, who is he?

Shelide called the suspect "a known creep."

"Believe it or not, Charlie, you're going to be shocked when I tell you this," he told Langton, "but he works as an IT specialist at one of the local companies around here. So we started locking in on him, and his past also. He's been involved in this type of behavior in the past, and we're very confident this is the right guy."

The chief said police obtained a search warrant and on Friday were searching the home, where the suspect lives with his parents, for further evidence.

Police noted that the owner of the business is not a suspect and has been cooperating with investigators.
