Man Charged With Attempted Murder In Shooting At Macomb Sports Bar

(WWJ) Authorities say he was ejected from a sports bar, but returned to shoot up the place — one shotgun blast narrowly missing an employee.

 A 21-year-old it man is has been arraigned on attempted murder and other numerous charges in connection with a shooting Monday morning at Hub Sports Bistro, on 21 Mile Rd. near Garfield in Macomb Township. 

Bond was set at $250,000 in 41-A Shelby Township District Court for Charles Alam of Macomb Township, according to an update from the Macomb County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday,

  1. Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Felonious Assault)
  2. Weapons – Felony Firearm
  3. Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Felonious Assault)
  4. Weapons – Felony Firearm
  5. Weapons – Firearms – Discharge From Vehicle
  6. Weapons – Felony Firearm
  7. Weapons – Firearms – Discharge in or at a Building
  8. Weapons – Felony Firearm
  9. Malicious Destruction of Personal Property

Authorities said, at around 2:20 a.m. Monday, one shot was fired at the back door of the bar. A female staff member was walking out door when it happened, according to investigators, but was pulled back into the bar in time by another employee.  A gunshot was heard just as the door was shut and a bullet was found in the door. A short time later, a second shot was fired at a patron’s silver Cadillac in the parking lot, but no one was injured. 

According to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, a man earlier threatened to "shoot up" the building after he was escorted out by security guards, and left in a red Honda.

A short time later, investigators say security video shows that man coming back to the bar in the same car and firing the first shot. He then drove away, officials said, but returned to the parking lot a second time to fire again. 

Deputies were able to gather information on the scene which led to a traffic stop of a white Dodge Challenger nearby. Officials said the driver, who was booked for a concealed carry violation, identified Alam as the shooter. 

After getting a search warrant, deputies went to Alam's home where they found him, the suspect vehicle, a spent shell, a loaded shotgun, and the clothing the suspect was wearing at the time of the shooting.

Alam was arrested and taken to the Macomb County Jail. 

His next court appearance is scheduled for Jun 30.
