(WWJ) A Detroit man is behind bars after it's alleged he shoplifted from a store in Troy, then attacked two police officers.

Just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Troy police were called to Macy’s, at the Somerset Collection on W. Big Beaver Rd., on a report of a retail fraud suspect who was not cooperating with store employees.

Employees said they saw the suspect, a 32-year-old man, select and conceal merchandise, then try to leave the store without paying.

When employees asked the man to stop, it's alleged he told them: “Get the f— out of my face.”

When Troy police approached the man to investigate, they discovered he had an outstanding warrant for absconding parole on a manslaughter charge.

When officers tried to take the man into custody, he allegedly punched one of them in the face with a closed fist. Another officer assisted and the suspect also punched him in the face, police said.

The suspect continued to fight and resist arrest, but was eventually arrested transported to the Troy Police Department lockup.

Police said one of the officers who was punched was injured and had to be taken to the hospital.

The suspect's name has not yet been released, with formal charges pending.
