(WWJ) Detroit police are asking for help to find a man who lashed out when informed had to wear a mask.
The DPD on Tuesday released surveillance footage of the suspect, wanted on a charge of assault and battery in connection with the incident at 11 a.m. on July 15, on the city's east side.
According to investigators, the unknown man walked into a gas station — in the 2000 block of E. Jefferson, just east of Downtown — without covering his face.
When the clerk told the man that a face mask was required to be serviced, due to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's executive order, police said the man "became irate and stated making threats."
It's alleged that the suspect then pushed in the security screen window that separates the clerk from the customers, causing the clerk to be struck to the body by the window.
The suspect then left on foot, heading heading south on E. Jefferson.
The incident was caught on HD Project Green Light security camera.
The suspect is described as a Black male with a dark complexion, last seen wearing a pink hat, black shirt, red shorts, and pink gym shoes.
Anyone who can ID the man in the video or who has any information about this crime is asked to call the Detroit Police Department's 7th Precinct at 313-596-5740 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP (1-800-773-2587). As always, those who call in tips to Crime Stoppers will remains anonymous and will not be required to speak to police.
