Metro Detroit Could See Record-Setting Heat Tuesday

(WWJ) - October 1, 2019 could be one for the record books.

Forecasters say there's a chance temperatures in the Metro Detroit region could hit or even break the record high of 88 degrees set back in 1897. 

Forecasters say there is also a chance of thunderstorms in southeast Michigan from late Tuesday afternoon through the night, with a marginal risk of storms becoming severe. Widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms could continue through Wednesday as a slow moving cold front moves toward the Ohio border.

On Monday, the Detroit area saw a high temperature of 77, close to the record of 85 set in 1991. Last year on September 30, it was 67 degrees.

Tuesday -- Warmer with clouds and sun. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5pm. High 87. Low 69.

Wednesday -- Cooler with rain at times and possibly a thunderstorm. High 72. Low 57.

Thursday -- Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm. Cloudy. High 69. Low 48.

Friday -- Some clouds, then sun. High 59. Low 46.

Saturday -- Mostly cloudy. High 60. Low 55.
