(WWJ) Michigan now has 30,791confirmed cases of the coronavirus, and 2,308 deaths.
That's an increase of 768 new infections in the past 24 hours. Between Friday and Saturday, The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 81 more Michiganders lost their lives to the virus.
It's notable that the rate of daily infections has slowed down for two days in a row. This is the second day new cases reported have been in the 700s, instead of the 900s or above 1,000.
The State reports the median age of the Michiganders who’ve died is 75, meaning half of the fatalities were older and the other half was younger. The youngest person to pass away was 20 years old, while the oldest was 107. The overall case fatality rate in Michigan is 7%.
Wayne County continues to be the hardest hit with 7,497 confirmed cases in Detroit, and 5,974 in the rest of the county. Oakland County has 6,021 infections, and Macomb County has 4,251.
3,237 people have recovered from COVID-19. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services calls a patient 'recovered' when they're doing well a month after their symptoms began. Those numbers are updated every Saturday.
