DEARBORN (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are out in force, Thursday morning, along Ford Road in Dearborn.

Working in conjunction with the Dearborn Police Department, MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said troopers will be looking for drivers who aren't wearing their seatbelts and other traffic infractions -- including speeding, distracting driving and tailgating -- which create dangerous conditions on Ford Rd.

"That's why we're back out here," Shaw said. "We're not just out here to write tickets, we're not just out here to stop cars, we're out here to save lives. And that's what we're gonna continue to do, all this morning, back out here on Ford Road."

The first stop of the day was for speed, according to police, and the driver admitted that he just came from traffic court.

The second stop was a driver with no license plate, no seatbelt on, and no driver's license.

During a similar operation on Ford Road last month, police wrote 133 seatbelt tickets. "Hopefully, drivers learned that seatbelts safe lives after that detail," said Shaw, "because they do."

According to Dearborn police, nine people died in crashes in the city last year.

"So just be careful out there," Shaw said. "Follow the law, follow the speed limit and you'll be all set."

Shaw said police would be updating the public on the results of the operation on Twitter: @MSPMetroDet.
