(WWJ) A mushroom hunter discovered the body of a man who had been missing for nearly two years.

Police say the Chesterfield man was scouring a "wooded, swampy area" for mushrooms near 23 Mile and I-94 when he made the discovery Saturday afternoon.

“The remains were only bones, heavily weathered clothing, and camping equipment,” Chesterfield Police said in a press release.

Chesterfield Police and the Macomb County Medical Examiner were called to the scene.

Investigators tell WWJ a Michigan ID card next to the body revealed the remains belonged to an Eastpointe man, 35, reported missing in July of 2018.

A Chesterfield detective contacted the man’s next of kin in Texas, according to police.

No foul play is suspected following a preliminary investigation.
