(WWJ)  -  Kids across southeast Michigan are getting a day off school even though conditions right now haven't been that bad from this touch of winter.

Nearly 700 schools are closed Wednesday — including all public schools in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, Washtenaw and St. Clair counties.

The National Weather Service has four snowfall measurements as of 3 a.m. Wednesday: 1.5 inches in Ann Arbor, 1.4 inches in Farmington Hills, 1.2 inches at Metro Airport and 1 inch in Berkley. Forecasters initially said we could expect to see 4-8 inches by the time the storm was over.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight Wednesday for all of southeast Michigan.

Forecasters say the Detroit area could see an additional 3 to 4 inches of accumulation on Wednesday with storm totals around 5 inches in some locations. The snow is expected to increase in rate after 10 a.m., peak during the afternoon into the early evening, and end between 8 p.m. and midnight.
