DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit police officer was hit by a squad car and injured while executing a search warrant during a special operation on the city's northeast side.

It happened on Andover Street near East State Fair and John R., Tuesday afternoon.

Detroit Police Commander Constance Slappey said two warrants were being served at two houses on the block.

At one of the homes, Slappey said, two dogs were shot by police.

"We had units here executing narcotics search warrants," Slappey told reports at the scene. "At one location, they unfortunately ended up putting down two dogs. And at the second location, my officer accidently got hit by a vehicle."

The car that hit the officer then struck a tree.

Slappey said the wounded officer, whose name has not been released, was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he was listed in temporary serious condition.

Police are not releasing any details about the operation at this time, but Slappey said one person was arrested.

No additional injuries were reported, and no names were released.
