(WWJ) Police are searching for suspects in the case of a teenager shot while waiting at a While Castle drive-thru in Detroit.
It happened at around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a preliminary investigation, at the fast food restaurant in the 8800 block of Greenfield, near the intersection of Joy Rd. on the city's west side.
Police said a 16-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman were sitting in a tan Subaru Legacy when two men approached.
The suspects — described at this time only as black males — were wearing masks when they approached the victim's vehicle and demanded money, police said. As the victims attempted to flee the scene, one or both of the suspect fired shots into the car, wounding the teenage passenger.
After the incident, the driver took off. The car was then stopped in the area of Ford Rd. and Chase by Dearborn police, who called for an ambulance.
The teen was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition. His name has not been released.
A motive for the shooting is unknown. Police say circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated; that this is all preliminary information, and it could change upon further investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police Department’s Sixth Precinct at 313-596-5640, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up. As always, those calling Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous.
