Richmond Community Schools Hit With Ransomware Attack

RICHMOND (WWJ) - Students at Richmond Community Schools are getting a longer holiday break because of a ransomware attack.

All schools in the district will be closed Thursday and Friday while the district deals with the situation.

In a statement on the district's Facebook page, school officials say the virus targeted key operating systems including heating, telephones, copiers and classroom technology.

Officials say say no personal information was compromised.

It's unclear who may be responsible for the attack. An investigation is ongoing.
