PORT HURON (WWJ) - A 60-year-old Michigan man authorities call a "sexual predator" is behind bars on numerous felony charges.
Mark Robert Olson of St. Clair County's Fort Gratiot Township was arrested following an investigation by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.
The investigation began in November after the Port Huron Police Capture Program received an anonymous tip about Olson, police said. That information was passed on to the Port Huron Police Major Crimes Unit (MCU), when were able to determine that the suspect lives in Fort Gratiot.
Police then turned the investigation over to the sheriff’s office — where investigators say they uncovered multiple criminal sex acts involving Olson between 2001 and 2008.
“We are deeply disturbed with the allegations regarding this suspect,” said Sheriff Tim Donnellon, in a statement. “We are also thankful of the collaborative effort between the Port Huron Police Major Crimes Unit and our Detective Bureau in removing a sexual predator from our community.”
Olson was arrested arraigned Tuesday before Magistrate Susan Borovich in 72nd District Court in Port Huron on five counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct and three counts of possession of child sexually abusive material.
Further details about his alleged crimes have not been released.
Authorities said more charges are expected against Olson as the investigation continues. Anyone who was a victim or has any information regarding these crimes are asked to call Det. Haley Bonner at 810-987-1728.
