INDEPENDENCE TWP. (WWJ) - An Oakland County teen was arrested over the weekend after authorities say he drunkenly entered the wrong house.

It happened at around 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, in the 10000 block of Durham Rd. in Independence Township.

A frightened woman called 911 after she said she woke up to someone opening her bedroom door. The 49-year-old woman reported that, after seeing a stranger inside her home, she ran outside and hid in her neighbor’s yard while she waited for help.

Deputies arrived and went to the back of the house, where they found that a sliding glass door had been broken by a rock thrown through it.

When they went inside to investigator further, deputies encountered white male walking toward them from the far side of the basement. "The subject appeared highly intoxicated and told deputies that he lives in the home," according to sheriff's office report.

The suspect was taken into custody and given a preliminary breath test that registered a .17 BAC (blood alcohol concentration).

After speaking with the suspect, deputies were able to determine that he was a 16-year-old boy who lives a couple houses down from the victim's home. Deputies contacted his parents, who said they thought their son was in his bedroom.

A petition for juvenile charges was completed and forwarded for review, the sheriff's office said. The teen was then released into his parents' custody.
