(WWJ) Sonic The Hedgehog will be paying a visit to Sterling Heights' notorious giant golden ring.
Because of course he would, right?
According to a release from the city, the 35-foot structure officially dubbed "The Halo" will be among popular landmarks on the agenda as Sonic travels through metro Detroit to promote an upcoming film.
For those unfamiliar with Sonic, the spiky blue critter collects and jumps through golden rings of various sizes throughout the series of classic and contemporary video games in which he stars. So it's really no surprise he'd be drawn to the somewhat controversial piece of public art — in the middle of Hall Road, just east of Schoenherr Road —which has been the subject of memes featuring the character.
At 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, Sonic will take a photo at the ring, where he'll also say hi to city's Census 2020 mascot "Sterling B. Counted," who's out and about to promote the importance of the census.
Paramount Pictures' Sonic The Hedgehog movie, slated for release in theaters on Feb. 14, tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In the "live-action adventure comedy," Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
