TROY, Mich. (WWJ) -- Police are asking for the public's help in identifying and locating a man they say robbed a shoe store last week.

Around 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 20, police say a suspect was wandering the Shoe Carnival at 360 John R. Road, near the Oakland Mall. He waited for all other customers to leave the store, then he approached the counter and attempted to purchase two pairs of shoes and a pair of socks.

As the female employee was using the cash register to complete the sale, the suspect told her he had a gun and demanded her to give him all the money from the register.

The suspect had his hand inside the pocket of his sweatshirt, indicating he was armed.

The employee opened the cash register and the suspect reached in, taking an unknown amount of money. He then instructed the employee to walk to the back of the store.

As she did, the suspect took off with the money and items, fleeing the store in an unknown direction.

Troy police officers showed up to the scene, but were unable to locate the suspect.

On Wednesday, police released a surveillance photo of the suspect, who appears to be a white male, wearing glasses, a black zip-up hoodie, black pants and black shoes.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes him or who may have information about the robbery to contact them.
