Police Arrest Man Suspected In Several Armed Robberies Across Metro Detroit

WESTLAND (WWJ) - A 26-year-old man police believe committed multiple armed robberies in metro Detroit is now in custody.

Officers executed a search warrant at the suspect's apartment in Westland Tuesday night and found evidence that links the man to seven robberies in six communities in the tri-county area.

"We believe he's responsible for at least six or seven different robberies in different cities, including Detroit, two in Warren, one in St. Clair Shores, one in Taylor and one in Sterling Heights," said Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer. "He's on parole for armed robbery at the current time, so he's a serial robber."

Dwyer said the robberies occurred in December and early in January at a Family Dollar store and several Check 'N Go locations. He made off with hundreds of dollars in cash.

"This in an ongoing investigation. We believe that he did commit these robberies. We do have evidence that was recovered at his apartment by the special operations unit last night," said Dwyer.

The suspect is expected to be formally arraigned on charges Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning.
