Threat Of Severe, Damaging Storms In Metro Detroit Tuesday

DETROIT (WWJ) - There's a possibility of damaging storms in metro Detroit, and across Southeast Michigan, on Tuesday.

AccuWeather and the National Weather Service say that the threat of severe weather begins in the afternoon and continues later into the night, with isolated thunderstorms that could hit the Detroit area between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m.

WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean Devore says this storm system could bring strong winds, hail and heavy rain.

"It looks like the batch that's out there now is going to stay to the north and west of the city," Devore said, speaking live on WWJ late in the morning. "But this little boundary that will be pushing towards us as we go through the day could touch off a shower or thunderstorm later this afternoon or this evening.

"And there is the potential that some of the thunderstorms that could pop up with that could be strong to severe with damaging wind gusts, and possibly some heavy downpours. I couldn't rule out a little hail mixed in as well."

As always with storms like this, power outages are a concern.

Until the storms hit, Devore said, it'll be hot and sticky. Temperatures will be warmer that usual, in the upper 80s feeling like the low 90s, with high humidity.

It'll stay warm and humid on Wednesday, with showers and thunderstorms possible. It'll be slightly cooler on Thursday and Friday, Devore said, although the rain and storms are possible every day until things clear up with some sunshine in the forecast on Saturday.
