(WWJ) Fire ripped through an apartment building on Detroit’s west side, killing two people.
Fire officials told WWJ firefighters responded to the scene on Pingree near West Grand Boulevard around 6:30 a.m. Monday.
Deputy Fire Commissioner, Dave Fornell, said the fire was “heavy” on the first floor, and it took firefighters a long time to “knock down the fire” enough for them to make entry.
“When they finally got inside…, they found the bodies of two people. They were burned beyond recognition,” Fornell said.
Fornell said the Wayne County Medical Examiner is working to identify the victims.
