BRIGHTON (WWJ) - Michigan State Police say one person has died in a crash on US 23, near Brighton in Livingston County.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area through the day, following the incident involving a pickup truck and a semi truck at around 9 a.m. Monday, on the southbound side of the freeway, south of Lee Road.
The pickup ended up in the median, police said, while the semi trailer was left jackknifed across the freeway.
US 23 was completely closed — at Silver Lake Rd. on the northbound side and Lee Road on the southbound side — for many hours due to the crash.
As the investigation continues, circumstances leading up to the crash, including who was at fault, are unclear. Police have not released any information about the person who was killed.
No additional injuries were reported.
State Police investigators remained on the scene until around 3 p.m. Although the freeway has since reopened to traffic, drivers should anticipate residual backups.
