Crash Takes Out Utility Pole, Causing Power Outage Downriver

GIBRALTAR, Mich. (WWJ) -- More than 3,000 DTE Energy customers Downriver were left in the dark Monday night after a vehicle crash took out a utility pole, causing a power outage.

Gibraltar police say a vehicle struck a pole and took down power lines at West Jefferson Avenue and Woodruff Road, near Gibraltar Carlson High School. 

Circumstances surrounding the crash were not released and it was unclear whether there were any injuries.

The DTE outage map shows the outage is affecting around 3,150 people, stretching from the Detroit River to the east, all the way west of I-75 near Flat Rock, while roughly spanning from Lake Erie Metropark north to just south of Vreeland Road.

DTE estimates power will be restored by 2 a.m. Tuesday.
