(WWJ) An unusual mess in the street has the cops in one Oakland County community scratching their heads.

Who dumped a bunch of bathroom tissue in Troy?

"Officers located a suspicious scene while on patrol this morning. Toilet paper was found strewn across the roadway near Athens HS (High School)," Troy police posted on Twitter Monday, along with photos from the scene. If anyone has information about this incident, we'd love to know. Was there a TP heist somewhere?" the Troy Police Department said in a tweet. Troy Athens High School is located on John R Rd., north of E. Wattles Rd.

With some in metro Detroit hoarding TP amid the virus crisis, and a short supply in many stores, it's no surprise that people in the comments wondered if this discarded stuff could still be used.

Unfortunately: "No, this stuff was wet and dirty from being in the road. Very strange," police said.

Everyone seems to agree it was shameful crime. Tweeted Sheila Bloom: "What a waste of something that is in short supply. In normal times this would be hilarious."

"When you find out who's responsible will they be arrested and charged for harming an endangered species?" Dena  wrote.

"Under present circumstances, this is wanton waste!" added Gail D.

No suspects have been described, so far, and it doesn't seem like investigators have a lot to go on. As for what charges the offender could face police joked: "If this was intentional, MDOTP. Malicious Destruction of TP. If it was not intentional, CDOTP — careless destruction."
