WINDSOR (WWJ) - Fears about COVID-19 have brought an auto assembly line in Ontario, Canada to a halt.
Production is stopped Friday at the Fiat Chrysler Windsor Minivan plant where WWJ Auto Beat Reporter Jeff Glibert says employees are concerned about exposure to the coronavirus.
FCA confirmed that workers stopped working Thursday afternoon. One worker may have had secondary exposure to COVID-19, the automaker said, but there are no confirmed cases in anyone linked to the facility at this time.
No auto plants in Michigan have been shut down as yet, and it's unclear if any will be. Manufacturing is exempt from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's order banning gatherings of 250 or more people at 5 p.m. Monday through April 5.
The total confirmed cases in Canada as of Friday afternoon was reported to be 152, with 60 of those in Ontario. On Monday, 228 Canadians were repatriated by the federal government after an outbreak of the virus that causes COVID-19 on the Grand Princess cruise ship, which was holding thousands of passengers in quarantine off the coast of California.
Canadians, like Americans, have been urged to reconsider their travel plans and make sure to practice good hygiene, including frequent hand washing.
Everyone is urged to practice social distancing to avoid spreading the virus.
