MT. CLEMENS (WWJ) - A Warren man is facing felonious assault and other charges in an alleged attack on a Macomb County Sheriff's deputy.
Sheriff's officials say it happened the morning of August 23, as 34-year-old Paul Frost was in the lock up at the Macomb County Circuit Court building.
Frost, who had several outstanding bench warrants, was waiting to go before a judge following his arrest the previous day.
There were three inmates in the lock up at the time, according to the sheriff's office. When a deputy opened the lock up door to check on an inmate who'd said he wasn't feeling well, he was allegedly attacked by Frost who'd slipped out of his metal belly chain.
Frost used the chain as a weapon, officials say, striking the deputy in the face. It's alleged that Frost then walked out of the lock up and continued to swing the chain, while grabbing the deputy’s holster in an attempt to disarm him.
A court house employee sounded the alarm and several other deputies arrived at the lock up, gaining control of Frost.
The deputy, whose name was not released, treated for his injuries and released.
According to the sheriff's office, Frost had several injuries to his face prior to the assault on the deputy, and had arrived at the jail with the injuries on the day of his arrest.
He was arraigned in 41-B District Court Tuesday on the following felony charges: assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault), assault of a prison employee; assaulting/resisting/obstructing an officer causing injury, escape from jail through violence and attempt to disarm a peace officer.
Bond was set at $50,000 and Frost's next court appearance was scheduled for Sept. 9.
