Wife Dead, Husband Critical After Small Plane Crashes In Mid-Michigan

(WWJ) The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a deadly plane crash in Mid-Michigan.

The Midland County Sheriff's Office says 64-year old Dorothy Granger of Lake City was killed Tuesday afternoon. when the single-engine aircraft crash-landed in a farm field, east of N. Sturgeon Rd. and north of E. Shaffer Rd. in Mills Township.


Investigators say when the plane had engine trouble, and, while coming in for an emergency, it struck a large grass covered mound of dirt before coming to a rest. 

Granger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Her 64-year-old husband William Granger, who was piloting the white 1959 Piper PA 24-250 Comanche, was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.  

Deputies from the Midland County Sheriff's Office were assisted at the crash site by Mills Fire Rescue, Larkin Fire Rescue, MidMichigan EMS and Deputy Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Dennis Wagner.

Sheriff's officials said the investigation has now been turned over to the FAA.
