(WWJ) A 55-year-old woman is dead after she and her husband were hit by a pickup truck while changing a flat tire along I-94.
According to Michigan State Police, the Detroit couple was on the right shoulder of the eastbound freeway, near Barret Ave. in Detroit, just after 11:30 a.m. Monday.
An MSP investigation found that a pickup truck driver could not stop in time to avoid a rear-end crash that happened in front of him. When he swerved, he drove up the right embankment and struck both the man and the woman.
The couple was taken to a local hospital where the woman died of her injuries.
Police said the man's injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Troopers with the MSP Metro South post responded to the scene, a blood draw was completed on the truck driver and his vehicle was impounded.
It's unclear if he will face charges, as the investigation continues.
No names have been released.
