Woman Hits Detroit Party Store Clerk With Cans Because She Can't Return Them

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are looking for a woman wanted in an outlandish attack at an east side Detroit party store.

According to police, the suspect went into the store in the1400 block of E. Jefferson — not far from downtown — at around 1:40 a.m. April 15, carrying two bags of empty plastic bottles and cans she wanted to return.

When the suspect asked the 44-year-old clerk if she could cash in her empties, the clerk informed the woman that bottle return service has been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Police said the suspect then became upset, and hit the victim with one of the bags. 

The suspect then fled on foot, and remained at large as of Wednesday.

No injuries were reported. 

Police are looking tips to identify the suspect, who was caught on security camera in the store. She is described as a black female, 40 to 50 years old, about 5'5'' tall and weighing around 185 to 190 lbs. She was last seen wearing all pink clothing.
