WARREN (WWJ) - General Motors is now dealing with its first case of coronavirus.
The automaker says an employee at their Warren Technical Center has tested positive for COVID-19. The employee works at the Cole Engineering Center, which has since been closed for disinfecting and cleaning.
GM says they learned about the employee's diagnosis Tuesday morning. Anyone who may have been in contact with the worker has been notified to seek medical care and then self-quarantine for 14 days.
"We have been in contact with public health officials and we have moved quickly to deep clean and disinfect work and common areas at the site," GM said in a statement. "Going forward, we will continue to take aggressive steps to help prevent the spread of the virus and keep families safe."
At this time, it's unclear when the Cole Engineering Center will reopen. The rest of the Tech Center, off 12 Mile Road between Mound Road and Van Dyke Avenue, remains open.
GM says few workers have been on site as most employees are already working from home.
