(WWJ) An Ypsilanti man has been slapped with multiple charges in connection to beating an elderly man and posting the attack on social media.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said Jaden Hayden, 20, brutally attacked Norman Bledsoe, 75, at a Detroit nursing facility in the area of Schaefer Highway and 6 Mile Road on May 15.

Hayden set up his cellphone in the room the two shared and then punched the “defenseless man” in the head multiple times, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors say staff at the facility heard the noise and rushed in to help, finding Bledsoe on the floor bleeding. They were told he had fallen out of bed.

Bledsoe was taken to the hospital.

Hayden posted videos of the assault on social media later that night and stole Bledsoe’s credit card, according to prosecutors. Someone showed the videos to Ann Arbor Police, who then turned them over to Detroit Police.

“The alleged actions of this defendant are truly and uniquely disturbing. We must be able to trust our loved ones in specialty care facilities. I truly hope that the facts of this case are one of a kind,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in the press release.

Hayden was charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, Larceny in a Building, and two counts of Financial Transaction Device – Steal/Retain Without Consent.

Hayden was arraigned Sunday morning. His bond is set at $300,000 cash.
