OAKLAND TWP. (WWJ) - An Oakland County motorcyclist died over the weekend, following a crash involving a turkey.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the 70-year old Oxford Township man was riding a 2005 Triumph on westbound Stoney Creek Road near N. Rochester Road in Oakland Township, Saturday afternoon, when several turkeys began to cross the road.
One of the birds flew into the biker, according investigators, striking him in the chest causing him to lose control of his bike and crash into a guardrail post.
The sheriff's office said the man's left leg was severed below the knee. He was treated by EMS at the scene and then taken to McLaren-Oakland Hospital where he died.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and other protective clothing at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.
His name was not released.
