PONTIAC (WWJ) - A Pontiac man is behind bars after he allegedly pointed a gun at a DTE Energy worker who was about to shut off his power.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, there was an illegal electrical hook-up the suspect's home on Dewey Street, north of W. Kennett Road.
When the DTE worker went to the electrical box to disconnect the power at around noon on Thursday, the 42-year-old pointed a handgun at him and asked what he was doing.
When the worker, who was in uniform, told the man he was there to disconnect power, he put the gun down and went inside.
The suspect told deputies he thought someone was trying to break into his home. The man consented to let investigators inside, and search of the house turned up two handguns as well as suspected cocaine, a scale and narcotics paraphernalia "in plain view," according to the sheriff's office.
The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, is being held in the Oakland County jail with charges pending. The suspected cocaine will be sent to the OCSO Forensic Science Lab for analysis.
The 67-year old DTE employee, a Detroit resident, was not physically hurt.
