BRANDON TWP., Mich. (WWJ) -- Oakland County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash involving a 36-year-old man who apparently was lying in the middle of the road.
Deputies and the Brandon Township Fire Department responded to the area of the M-15 just north of Viola Drive early Wednesday morning after a reported pedestrian vs. vehicle accident.
The victim, who deputies say was wearing all dark clothes, was struck by a woman driving a 2011 Toyota Rav 4 while she was traveling northbound on M-15. Police said the driver was wearing a seatbelt and the vehicle's airbags did not deploy during the crash.
Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the victim at the scene.
Witnesses reported the man appeared to have fallen into the roadway. He was not in a designated crosswalk at the time of the incident, deputies said.
Deputies believe alcohol may have been a factor on behalf of the pedestrian, as it appears he had been escorted or removed from a bar nearby earlier in the evening. An autopsy has been scheduled.
An investigation is still ongoing and deputies requested to have the OCSO Crash Reconstruction Unit assist them.
