DETROIT (WWJ) - A 36-year-old man who went to meet a love connection he made online wound up getting shot during their rendezvous on Detroit's east side.

The incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the area of Gratiot Avenue and Manning Street, between 7 Mile and 8 Mile roads.

After meeting one another on a dating website, the two men decided to meet-up in person. Police say the pair was inside the victim's SUV when an argument broke out. The suspect took the victim's handgun during a struggle, according to police, and shot him multiple times. He then fled on foot with the gun.

The victim managed to drive himself to a Project Green Light location about 20 minutes away in the 15000 block of East Eight Mile and call 911. He was taken to the hospital and last reported in critical condition.

The suspect is still on the run. No description was provided.
